Sport at Shoalhaven Anglican School is a vital part of the learning and development process of each student. The Personal Development, Health and Physical Exercise (PDHPE) program at the School is designed to allow each student to develop the basic skills of a variety of sports with an emphasis on good sportsmanship, positive behaviour and fair play.
In the Junior School at Shoalhaven Anglican School we encourage students to embrace an active lifestyle through developmentally appropriate activities following the Board of Studies curriculum guidelines. Fun-filled fitness lessons with the classroom teacher are a great way to start the day and skipping sessions across the junior school are a one of the ways we develop fitness and social skills. We are fortunate to have plenty of space to engage in organised games such as T-Ball, modified rugby union and rugby league; netball and soccer.
All students enjoy running on the oval and participate in the annual cross-country race. During our Athletics Carnival students from Years 2-4 participate in timed races in order to then compete against other schools at a zone level whilst Kindergarten and Year 1 students run their races then participate in fun-based activities such as water races. The students participate in dance lessons under the guidance of a specialist dance teacher and Year 2 students are involved in a water awareness programme at the local swimming centre.
In Years 5 to 10 students are taught the skills of a variety of major sports. This enables them to learn and develop the fundamentals of each activity and to decide whether they would like to be further involved at a representative level.
Students in Years 9 & 10 also have the opportunity to choose the Physical Activity and Sports Studies (PASS) elective.
In Years 11 & 12 the School offers the NSW Board of Studies 2 Unit (PDHPE) course.
