Performing Arts
Vocal Group
The Shoalhaven Anglican School Vocal Group is a 30 voice choir, (and growing!) who sing in four vocal parts (SATB). The group has participated in many school and community events, most recently Create, the biggest annual Shoalhaven Anglican School concert. The group have also performed at the inaugural South Coast Music Music Society’s Mostly Mozart concert, the ceremony to begin land clearing for the Dunn-Lewis memorial, and both the School and St Martin’s Anglican Church Easter Service. The vocal group performs at a high standard, and rehearses weekly. All members of the student community who enjoy singing are welcome to join.
Band
The School Band is open to all students who play a band instrument at a level beyond the beginner stage. The group rehearses weekly, and participates at School events. When there a few beginners making progress, a Training Band is formed to coach these players into participating in the School Band.
Jazz
The Jazz group is an invitation only group for advanced players. The current instrumentation is: vocals, guitar, bass, drums, saxophone, trumpet, guitar and euphonium. This group is in its early stages, and has replaced Fusion, the jazz rock fusion group which has played such a big part in the School’s life for many years.
A cappella
The a cappella group is a small group of specialist singers. This group has recently performed at the ceremony celebrating the beginning of work on the Milton Outpatients Cancer Clinic. The repertoire performed by this group is more challenging than the works performed by the vocal group. The a cappella group also rehearse weekly.
Concerts
Throughout the year there are a variety of concerts held. These include Create, a concert for the best musicians in the student population. In late July or early August, we present the Senior Recital, a concert of the Music HSC performances. In November, Shoalhaven Anglican School presents the Young Performers’ Night, a celebration of the developing talent in our Junior and Middle School. Throughout the year, there may be other special occasion performances.
In 2006, we presented Jazz in the Gym, where the school gym was transformed into a Jazz club for a night. We also enter some groups and students in the Shoalhaven Eisteddfod and the St Peter’s Music Festival at Broulee.
Private tuition
The School has excellent visiting music teachers, and private tuition is available in a number of instruments including: classical voice, violin, brass, piano, flute, musicianship, double bass, guitar, saxophone & clarinet. A booklet with information about the specialist teachers and their fees is available on request.
