Outdoor Education

Outdoor Education is an essential and important element of the School's character development program. Starting at Year 3, students experience a range of activities, including canoeing and "jetty jumping" at Waterslea. As they develop, they are exposed to more increasingly challenging environments, leading up to the Year 9 three day expedition in the rugged Southern Highlands. Students learn practical camping and bushcraft skills, as well as participate in a broad and diverse range of activities such as bushwalking, sea kayaking, abseiling, trip planning and map reading.

For many students, expeditions and outdoor learning experiences can be quite challenging. Outdoor education helps develop such traits as perseverance, team commitment, tenacity and courage - many students report how much they learn about themselves through overcoming the challenges of an expedition.

Involvement in Outdoor Education is a compulsory component for all students in from Years 3-10. Students who wish to further develop their skills in outdoor environments can do so through involvement in the Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scheme.
